About Rubus fruticosus

Blackberry (Rubus fruticosus, a collective name for the European bramble complex) is a scrambling deciduous shrub of the rose family, Rosaceae, native to hedgerows, woodland edges, and waste ground throughout Europe and introduced to North America and Australia. Its biennial canes, angled and armed with hooked prickles, arch 2 to 3 meters and root at the tips; the leaves have three to five toothed, dark green leaflets, often grey-felted beneath. White or pink flowers open in early summer and ripen into the familiar fruit of glossy black drupelets. The leaves are rich in tannin, and fermented they taste much like black tea. We extract the dried leaf.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
