About Juglans cinerea

Butternut (Juglans cinerea), the white walnut, is a deciduous tree of the walnut family, Juglandaceae, native to eastern North America from New Brunswick and Ontario south to Georgia and west to Minnesota and Arkansas, usually on moist, rich slopes and streambanks. It grows 20 to 30 meters with light grey, ridged bark, pinnate leaves of 11 to 17 downy leaflets, and oblong, sticky-husked nuts in clusters of two to five whose deeply ridged shells hold a sweet, oily kernel. A dark brown dye was once made from the husks. Wild trees are now scarce because of a fungal canker. We extract the dried inner bark.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
