Carrot (Daucus carota) is a biennial of the carrot family, Apiaceae, whose wild form, Queen Anne's lace, is native to Europe and southwest Asia and naturalized along roadsides across North America; the orange-rooted garden carrot was selected in Persia and Afghanistan. In its first year it makes a rosette of finely divided, feathery leaves above the taproot; in the second it sends up a hairy stem 30 to 120 centimeters tall topped by flat, lacy umbels of tiny white flowers, often with a single dark red flower in the center. The small, bristly, ribbed fruits smell warmly aromatic when crushed. We extract the dried root and seed separately.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
