About Fritillaria cirrhosa

Chuan Bei Mu (Fritillaria cirrhosa), the Sichuan fritillary, is a slender bulbous perennial of the lily family, Liliaceae, native to alpine meadows and scrub at 3,000 to 4,500 meters in Sichuan, Yunnan, Tibet, and Qinghai, as well as Nepal and Bhutan. It grows 15 to 50 centimeters with narrow, grass-like leaves whose upper tips curl into tendrils, which is what the Latin name describes, and in summer bears one to three nodding, bell-shaped flowers of yellow-green checkered with purple. The bulb is tiny, about a centimeter across, made of two close-fitting white scales like clasped hands; dried, it is chalky white and faintly bitter. We extract the dried bulb.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
