Duckweed (Spirodela polyrhiza), the greater duckweed or Fu Ping, is a tiny free-floating aquatic plant of the arum family, Araceae, formerly placed in its own family Lemnaceae, found on still ponds, ditches, and backwaters on every continent except Antarctica. Each plant is a single flat, round to oval frond 5 to 10 millimeters across, shiny green on top and usually dark purple-red beneath, with a tuft of 7 to 20 thread-like roots hanging from the underside, which separates it from the smaller common duckweeds with one root each. It almost never flowers, multiplying by budding daughter fronds until it carpets the water. We extract the dried herb.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
