Durian (Durio zibethinus) is a tall tropical tree of the mallow family, Malvaceae, native to the rainforests of Borneo and Sumatra and grown in orchards across Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam, where it is called the king of fruits. It reaches 25 to 50 meters with a straight trunk, bronze-backed oblong leaves, and large cream-colored flowers that open at dusk and are pollinated by bats. The fruit is a heavy, oval, green-brown husk up to 30 centimeters long covered in sharp spines, splitting into five segments of soft, custard-like, pale yellow flesh. Its powerful smell, sweet and sulfurous at once, gets it banned from hotels. We extract the dried fruit.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
