Elephant Tree (Bursera microphylla) is a small, thick-trunked tree of the torchwood family, Burseraceae, native to the Sonoran Desert of Arizona, California and northwestern Mexico. Its swollen, tapering trunk and peeling papery bark give it an elephant-leg look, and the tiny pinnate leaves are shed in drought. Cut branches bleed a fragrant resin that hardens into pale, aromatic lumps known in Mexico as torote or copal. We extract the dried resin chunks.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
