About Houttuynia cordata

Fishwort (Houttuynia cordata), also called chameleon plant or yu xing cao, is a creeping perennial of the lizard's-tail family, Saururaceae, native to East and Southeast Asia and the Himalaya. It spreads by rhizomes in wet shade, with heart-shaped leaves, often edged in red, and short white spikes set above four white petal-like bracts. Crushed leaves smell distinctly of fish, which gives both the English and the Chinese name. We extract the dried herb.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
