About Boswellia serrata

Frankincense (Boswellia serrata), the Indian frankincense or salai, is a deciduous tree of the torchwood family, Burseraceae, native to the dry hills of central and northern India. It grows 10-15 m with papery, peeling bark and pinnate leaves clustered at the branch tips. Cuts in the bark weep a milky sap that hardens into pale yellow to amber tears with a warm, balsamic, lemony scent, long traded as incense. We extract the dried resin.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
