Gentian (Gentiana lutea), the great yellow gentian, is a long-lived perennial of the gentian family, Gentianaceae, native to the mountain meadows of central and southern Europe. It grows 1-1.5 m tall with large, ribbed, blue-green leaves in opposite pairs and whorls of star-shaped yellow flowers in the upper leaf axils. The thick, yellowish-brown root is one of the most bitter plant parts known and flavors European bitters and aperitifs. We extract the dried root.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
