Ground Ivy (Glechoma hederacea), also called alehoof or creeping Charlie, is a low creeping perennial of the mint family, Lamiaceae, native to Europe and western Asia and naturalized across North America as a lawn weed. Square, trailing stems root at the nodes and carry round, scalloped, bluntly toothed leaves and small, violet-blue, two-lipped flowers in spring. Crushed leaves smell strongly minty and slightly musky, and before hops the plant flavored English ale. We extract the dried herb.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
