Habanero (Capsicum chinense) is a perennial pepper of the nightshade family, Solanaceae, native to the Amazon basin and spread through the Caribbean and Yucatan, where most of the world's habaneros are grown; despite the name it has nothing to do with China. The bushy plant reaches 1 m with oval leaves and small white flowers. The lantern-shaped fruits ripen orange or red and are intensely hot, 100,000-350,000 Scoville units, with a fruity, apricot-like aroma. We extract the dried rinds and fruit.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
