Hai Feng Teng (Piper kadsura), the kadsura pepper, is a woody climbing vine of the pepper family, Piperaceae, native to the coastal forests of southeastern China, Taiwan, Korea and Japan. It clings to trees and rocks with adventitious roots, has heart-shaped to oval leaves with pale veins and bears slender spikes of tiny flowers followed by small red berries. The dried stems are jointed, grey-brown and slightly aromatic with a bitter, pungent taste. We extract the dried stem.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
