He Ye (Nelumbo nucifera), the sacred lotus, is an aquatic perennial of the lotus family, Nelumbonaceae, native to Asia from Iran to Japan and northern Australia. Round, water-repellent leaves up to 60 cm across rise above the water on long stalks, with large pink or white flowers that open for three days. Nearly every part is harvested: the plumule (the green embryo in the seed), stamens, seeds, leaves, stems and the chambered rhizome. We extract the dried flower, leaf, plumule, root, seed, stamen and stem separately.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
