Hedyotis (Scleromitrion diffusum, long known as Hedyotis diffusa), called bai hua she she cao in China, is a slender, sprawling annual of the coffee family, Rubiaceae, native to southern China, Japan and tropical Asia. It grows in damp fields and ditches with thin, four-angled stems, narrow opposite leaves and tiny white four-lobed flowers, singly or in pairs in the leaf axils, followed by small round capsules. The whole herb is grey-green and slightly bitter. We extract the dried herb.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
