Hei Dou (Phaseolus vulgaris), here the black bean or black turtle bean, is an annual of the legume family, Fabaceae, domesticated in Mesoamerica and the Andes and grown worldwide as a staple pulse. The plant is a twining or bushy herb with three-part leaves, small white or lilac pea flowers and slender pods. The seeds are small, oval and glossy black with a dense, mealy texture and a mild, earthy flavor. We extract the dried seed.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
