Huai Hua Mi (Styphnolobium japonicum, long known as Sophora japonica), the Japanese pagoda tree or Chinese scholar tree, is a deciduous tree of the legume family, Fabaceae, native to China and planted in temple grounds and city streets across East Asia and the West. It grows 15-25 m with pinnate leaves and large, airy panicles of creamy-white pea flowers in late summer, followed by fleshy, bead-like pods. The unopened flower buds are small, yellow-green and rich in rutin. We extract the dried flower buds.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
