Hyacinth Orchid (Bletilla striata), known in China as bai ji, is a hardy terrestrial orchid of the orchid family, Orchidaceae, native to China, Japan, Korea and Myanmar. It grows 30-60 cm tall from a flattened, white, pseudobulb-like tuber, with pleated, sword-shaped leaves and a loose spray of magenta-pink flowers with a frilled, striped lip in late spring. The dried tuber is hard, translucent and horn-like, with a sticky, bland taste. We extract the dried rhizome.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
