Jin Qiao Mai (Fagopyrum dibotrys), the golden or perennial buckwheat, is a perennial of the knotweed family, Polygonaceae, native to southern China, the Himalaya and northern Indochina. It grows 50-100 cm tall with hollow, red-tinged stems, heart-shaped to triangular leaves and loose clusters of small white flowers, followed by sharp, three-angled seeds like those of cultivated buckwheat. The knobby, woody rhizome is red-brown outside and pale pink inside with a bitter, astringent taste. We extract the dried rhizome.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
