About Cassia obtusifolia

Jue Ming Zi (Senna obtusifolia, formerly Cassia obtusifolia), the sicklepod, is an annual or short-lived perennial of the legume family, Fabaceae, native to the tropical Americas and now a widespread weed of warm regions on every continent. It grows 50-150 cm tall with leaves of three pairs of rounded leaflets, yellow five-petaled flowers and long, slender, curved pods. The small seeds are glossy, olive-brown and rhombic with a bitter taste, and in China they are roasted and brewed as a tea. We extract the dried seed.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
