Jujube (Ziziphus jujuba), the Chinese date or da zao, is a small, spiny deciduous tree of the buckthorn family, Rhamnaceae, native to southern Asia and cultivated in China for more than 4,000 years. It grows 5-12 m with zigzag branches, glossy oval leaves and tiny, fragrant yellow-green flowers. The oval fruits ripen from green to mahogany red, with sweet, apple-like crisp flesh that becomes dense and date-like when dried around a single hard stone. We extract the dried fruit and the dried seed separately.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
