Juniper (Juniperus monosperma), the one-seed juniper, is an evergreen conifer of the cypress family, Cupressaceae, native to the dry mesas and foothills of New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Texas and northern Mexico. It grows as a many-stemmed shrub or small tree 2-7 m tall with shreddy grey bark and scale-like, tightly pressed leaves. The small, berry-like cones are blue to copper with a waxy bloom and, as the name says, usually hold a single seed, with a sweet, resinous taste. We extract the dried berry.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
