Lemon Verbena (Aloysia citriodora, also known as Lippia citriodora) is a deciduous shrub of the verbena family, Verbenaceae, native to Argentina, Chile, Peru and Bolivia and brought to Europe by the Spanish in the 18th century. It grows 2-3 m tall with slender stems, narrow, rough, lance-shaped leaves in whorls of three and loose spikes of tiny pale lilac or white flowers in late summer. The leaves have the strongest, cleanest lemon scent of any herb, which lingers even when dried. We extract the dried leaf.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
