About Gentiana manshurica

Long Dan Cao (Gentiana manshurica), the Manchurian gentian, is a perennial of the gentian family, Gentianaceae, native to northeastern China, Korea, Japan and the Russian Far East. It grows 30-60 cm tall with narrow, lance-shaped leaves in opposite pairs and clusters of tubular, deep blue flowers at the stem tip and upper leaf nodes in autumn. The rhizome carries a tuft of slender, yellowish-brown roots with an intense, lasting bitterness recorded in the Chinese name meaning "dragon gall herb". We extract the dried root.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
