Lonicera (Lonicera japonica), the Japanese honeysuckle or jin yin hua, is a twining, semi-evergreen vine of the honeysuckle family, Caprifoliaceae, native to China, Japan and Korea and an aggressive invader in the eastern United States. It climbs to 10 m with oval, opposite leaves and pairs of fragrant tubular flowers that open white and age to yellow, so both colors show at once, which gives the Chinese name meaning "gold and silver flower". Black berries follow in autumn. We extract the dried flower and the dried stem separately.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
