Loquat (Eriobotrya japonica, placed by POWO in Rhaphiolepis as Rhaphiolepis bibas), the Japanese plum or pi pa, is an evergreen tree of the rose family, Rosaceae, native to the hills of central China and long cultivated in Japan and the Mediterranean. It grows 5-10 m with large, stiff, deeply veined leaves, dark glossy green above and rusty-woolly beneath, and fragrant white flowers in autumn that ripen into clusters of yellow-orange, apricot-like fruits in spring. The leaves are leathery and slightly bitter. We extract the dried leaf.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
