Luo Bu Ma (Apocynum venetum), the kendyr or dogbane of the Chinese steppes, is a perennial of the dogbane family, Apocynaceae, native to saline flats and riverbanks from Xinjiang and Inner Mongolia west to Central Asia and southeastern Europe. It grows 1-2 m tall with reddish, branching stems, narrow, leathery, opposite leaves and clusters of small, pink to purple bell-shaped flowers followed by long, slender paired pods. The stems yield a strong fiber, and the leaves are brewed as an everyday tea in Xinjiang. We extract the dried leaf.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
