Maidenhair Fern (Adiantum capillus-veneris), the southern maidenhair or Venus hair fern, is a delicate perennial fern of the Pteridaceae family, native to warm temperate and tropical regions on every continent, growing on damp limestone, cliffs and wells. It forms a soft clump 20-40 cm tall of arching fronds with shiny, wiry black stalks and fan-shaped, pale green leaflets that shed water, the trait behind the Latin name Adiantum, "unwetted". Spores form under the rolled leaflet margins. We extract the dried herb.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
