Malva (Malva sylvestris), the common or high mallow, is a bushy biennial or perennial of the mallow family, Malvaceae, native to Europe, North Africa and western Asia and naturalized across North America. It grows 60-120 cm tall with round, lobed, slightly hairy leaves and clusters of showy pink-purple flowers 3-5 cm across with five notched petals streaked by darker veins, followed by flat, wheel-shaped fruits called cheeses. The leaves and flowers are mucilaginous and mild. We extract the dried flower and the dried leaf separately.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
