Mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana) is a slow-growing evergreen tree of the mangosteen family, Clusiaceae, native to the Malay Peninsula and the Sunda Islands and grown across Southeast Asia and, more recently, in Puerto Rico and Hawaii. It grows 6-25 m with a conical crown, thick, glossy, dark green leaves and reddish flowers. The round, tennis-ball-sized fruit has a thick, deep purple rind with a persistent green calyx and holds segments of snow-white, sweet-tart, fragrant flesh. The rind is bitter and tannic and stains deep purple. We extract the dried juice powder.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
