About Filipendula ulmaria

Meadowsweet (Filipendula ulmaria), the queen of the meadow, is a tall perennial of the rose family, Rosaceae, native to damp meadows, ditches and riverbanks across Europe and western Asia and naturalized in North America. It grows 1-2 m tall with reddish stems, pinnate leaves that are dark green above and downy white beneath, and frothy, creamy-white plumes of tiny flowers in summer. The flowers smell strongly of almond and honey, while the crushed leaves have a sharper, wintergreen-like scent. We extract the dried flower and the dried leaf separately.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
