Mu Dan Pi (Paeonia suffruticosa), the tree peony, is a deciduous woody shrub of the peony family, Paeoniaceae, native to the mountains of central China and cultivated there as the "king of flowers" for more than 1,500 years. It grows 1-2 m tall with stiff, grey-brown stems, large, blue-green, deeply divided leaves and enormous bowl-shaped flowers up to 25 cm across in white, pink, red or purple. The root bark is peeled off in curled, grey-brown strips that are pale pink inside with a sharp, fragrant smell and a slightly bitter taste. We extract the dried bark.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
