Muira Puama (Ptychopetalum olacoides) is a small evergreen tree of the Olacaceae family, native to the Amazon rainforest of Brazil, Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana, and the species most often meant by the Brazilian name marapuama. It grows 5-14 m with grey, slightly furrowed bark, leathery, oblong, dark green leaves that end in a short point and small, fragrant white flowers followed by oval orange-red fruits. The root and stem bark are hard, grey-brown and nearly odorless, with a faint bitter, salty taste. We extract the dried bark.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
