About Verbascum thapsus

Mullein (Verbascum thapsus), the great or common mullein, is a tall biennial of the figwort family, Scrophulariaceae, native to Europe, North Africa and Asia and naturalized across North America on dry, disturbed ground. In its first year it forms a rosette of large, thick, grey-green leaves covered in soft, felted down; in the second it sends up a stout, woolly spike to 2 m densely set with small yellow five-petaled flowers that open a few at a time. The dried leaves are velvety and the flowers sweet-scented and mild. We extract the dried flower and the dried leaf separately.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
