About Pogostemon cablin

Patchouli (Pogostemon cablin) is a bushy herbaceous perennial of the mint family, Lamiaceae, native to the islands of Southeast Asia and cultivated in Indonesia, India and China. It grows to about a meter, with square stems and broad, soft, egg-shaped leaves whose toothed margins and slightly hairy surface resemble those of a nettle or coleus. Small pale pink to white flowers appear in dense spikes. The leaves are mild when fresh, and only after drying and ageing develop the deep, earthy, sweet scent that is a fixture of perfumery. We extract the dried leaf.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
