Pau d'Arco (Handroanthus impetiginosus, long sold as Tabebuia impetiginosa) is a tall deciduous tree of the trumpet-creeper family, Bignoniaceae, native to the tropical forests of Central and South America from Mexico to Argentina. It reaches 30 meters, with palmately compound leaves of five leaflets, and in the dry season drops its foliage and covers itself in showy pink to magenta trumpet-shaped flowers. The dense, greenish-brown heartwood is so hard that the Portuguese name means "bow stick". We extract the dried inner bark.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
