Phaseolus here refers to the adzuki bean (Vigna angularis, formerly Phaseolus angularis), an annual of the legume family, Fabaceae, domesticated in East Asia and widely grown in China, Japan and Korea. It is a bushy or slightly climbing plant 30 to 90 cm tall with trifoliate leaves and small yellow pea-like flowers, followed by slender cylindrical pods. The seeds are small, oblong and typically dark red with a white ridge along the seam, and in East Asian cooking are boiled into a sweet paste. We extract the dried ripe seed.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
