Plumed Cockscomb (Celosia argentea) is an erect annual of the amaranth family, Amaranthaceae, native to tropical Africa and Asia and grown as a bedding plant and leafy vegetable across the tropics. It reaches 1 meter with lanceolate leaves and dense, silvery-pink to crimson, feathery flower spikes made of tiny papery flowers. The spikes mature into small capsules full of shiny black, lens-shaped seeds, known in China as qing xiang zi. We extract the dried seed.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
