Qiang Huo (Notopterygium incisum) is a perennial of the carrot family, Apiaceae, native to the high mountains of western China, chiefly Sichuan, Gansu, Qinghai and Tibet, at 2,000 to 4,000 meters. It grows 60 to 120 cm tall with hollow, purple-tinged stems, large triply pinnate leaves with deeply cut leaflets, and compound umbels of white flowers. The rhizome and root are thick, knotted and ringed with close nodes like a string of beads, with a strong aromatic scent. We extract the dried root.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
