Red Cotton Tree (Bombax ceiba, long listed as Gossampinus malabarica) is a tall deciduous tree of the mallow family, Malvaceae, native to tropical and subtropical Asia from India to southern China and northern Australia. It reaches 25 to 40 meters with a buttressed, spiny trunk and palmate leaves of five to seven leaflets. In early spring the bare branches carry large, fleshy, cup-shaped flowers of brilliant red, which fall whole and are gathered from the ground, and the woody capsules later burst with silky white floss. We extract the dried flower.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
