Rosehips are the fruit of the dog rose (Rosa canina), a vigorous deciduous shrub of the rose family, Rosaceae, native to Europe, northwest Africa and western Asia and naturalized in North America, where it grows in hedgerows and scrub. Its arching, hooked-thorned stems reach 3 meters, with pinnate leaves of five to seven toothed leaflets and single pale pink to white, five-petaled flowers in early summer. The oval, glossy scarlet hips ripen in autumn and hold many hard, hairy seeds inside a fleshy, tart outer wall. We extract the dried fruit and seed separately.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
