Round Cardamon, more usually spelled round cardamom (Amomum kravanh, now placed in Wurfbainia as Wurfbainia vera; pharmacopoeial name Fructus Amomi Rotundus), is a tall rhizomatous perennial of the ginger family, Zingiberaceae, native to the forests of Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam. Leafy shoots 2 to 3 meters tall rise from a creeping rhizome, and short flowering stems near the ground bear spikes of pale flowers. The fruit is a nearly spherical, three-sided, cream-colored capsule about 1.5 cm across, holding clusters of aromatic brown seeds with a camphor-like scent. We extract the dried fruit.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
