Sea Buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides) is a thorny deciduous shrub of the oleaster family, Elaeagnaceae, native to coasts, riverbanks and mountain slopes across Europe and Asia from the Atlantic to the Himalaya and northern China. It forms dense, suckering thickets 2 to 4 meters tall with silvery-grey, narrow willow-like leaves and sharp spines, and separate male and female plants. Female shrubs are crowded in autumn with bright orange, oval berries that cling to the branches through winter and taste intensely sour. We extract the dried berry.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
