Solomon's Seal here is the angular or scented Solomon's seal (Polygonatum odoratum), a perennial of the asparagus family, Asparagaceae, native to Europe and temperate Asia from Britain to Japan, where it grows in open woods and rocky slopes on limestone. Its angled, arching stems reach 30 to 60 cm with alternate oval leaves held in one plane, and in late spring bear fragrant, tubular white flowers tipped in green, singly or in pairs, followed by blue-black berries. The pale, knotted rhizome is known in China as yu zhu. We extract the dried rhizome.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
