Stellaria (Stellaria dichotoma) is the forked chickweed, yin chai hu, a perennial of the pink family, Caryophyllaceae, native to northern China, Mongolia and Siberia, where it grows on dry sandy steppe, dunes and rocky slopes. It forms a rounded, much-branched bush 20 to 40 cm tall, the stems forking repeatedly in pairs, with small, narrow, pointed leaves and many tiny white, five-petaled flowers in early summer. The long, cylindrical taproot is pale yellow-brown and marked by small depressed scars. We extract the dried root.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
