Stellaria (Stellaria Dichotoma) Root Tincture

Both are liquid extracts of the same Stellaria dichotoma root; only the solvent differs. This tincture uses organic alcohol with vegetable glycerin and water, the classic conventional method that yields a concentrated extract with a long shelf life. The alcohol-free version is a glycerite made with vegetable glycerin and purified water instead, for those who prefer to avoid alcohol. Choose the tincture for a traditional alcohol-extracted format; choose the glycerite if you prefer no alcohol. The root inside is identical.

No - these are four different products that are easy to mix up. Our Stellaria is Yin Chai Hu, the ROOT of Stellaria dichotoma. Chickweed is Stellaria media - the same genus but a different species, and it uses the above-ground parts (leaves and stems), not the root, so it is a distinct herb. Chai Hu is Bupleurum (Bupleurum chinense), an entirely different plant from the carrot family (Apiaceae); the names sound alike because "Yin Chai Hu" literally means "silver Chai Hu," but botanically it is not a Bupleurum at all. Tai Zi Shen is Pseudostellaria heterophylla, sometimes called Prince Ginseng - a different genus. We label ours specifically as the root of Stellaria dichotoma (Yin Chai Hu) so it is not confused with any of the others.

Shake well first. Use the number of drops and the frequency shown on the label, in a little water, tea or juice, or as directed by your practitioner. Do not exceed the suggested serving. Because this is an alcohol tincture, adding it to water softens the taste. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct light, and shake before each use.

Yin Chai Hu (Stellaria dichotoma root) is a mild herb that is classified as non-toxic in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia, with no significant adverse effects reported at customary doses, but a few sensible cautions still apply.
