Sunflower (Helianthus annuus) is a tall annual of the daisy family, Asteraceae, native to North America, domesticated by Indigenous peoples thousands of years ago and now grown worldwide as an oilseed crop. It rises 1 to 3 meters or more on a rough, hairy stem with large, heart-shaped, coarsely toothed leaves and a single giant flower head, up to 30 cm across in cultivars, ringed by bright yellow ray petals around a disc of hundreds of small brown florets that mature into striped or black seeds. Young heads track the sun across the sky. We extract the dried petals.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
