Tabasco Pepper (Capsicum frutescens) is a shrubby perennial, grown as an annual in temperate climates, of the nightshade family, Solanaceae, native to Central and South America and the cultivar behind the famous Louisiana hot sauce. It forms a woody-based bush 1 to 2 meters tall with oval, smooth leaves and small greenish-white flowers that point upward. The fruit stands erect above the foliage, 2 to 4 cm long, slender and tapering, ripening from pale yellow-green through orange to bright red, and is unusually juicy inside and fiercely hot. We extract the dried fruit.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
