Tian Men Dong (Asparagus cochinchinensis) is the Chinese asparagus, a climbing perennial of the asparagus family, Asparagaceae, native to China, Korea, Japan and Indochina, where it grows in open hillside scrub and is cultivated in Guizhou and Sichuan. Its wiry, twining stems reach 1 to 2 meters with clusters of fine, flattened, needle-like cladodes in place of leaves and tiny greenish-white flowers followed by white berries. Below ground are clusters of fleshy, spindle-shaped tuberous roots, which when peeled and dried are translucent and yellow-white. We extract the dried root.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
