Tribulus (Tribulus terrestris) is puncture vine or goat's head, a prostrate annual of the caltrop family, Zygophyllaceae, native to the warm, dry regions of the Old World from the Mediterranean to India and China and now a weed of roadsides and dry fields across the Americas, including Hawaii. Its hairy stems trail outward for a meter from a central taproot, with small pinnate leaves of five to eight pairs of leaflets and solitary yellow five-petaled flowers. The fruit splits into five woody, spiny nutlets sharp enough to puncture bicycle tires. We extract the dried fruit.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
